Madness on the last matchday: ManCity are English champions – Liverpool is not enough to win against Wolves

Liverpool FC missed out on winning the English championship. The Reds won 3-1 (0-1) once morest Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday – but didn’t get enough support. Manchester City celebrated winning the title once more following beating Aston Villa 3-2 (0-1). Star coach Pep Guardiola’s club went into the final day of the Premier League with a one-point lead.

Liverpool were behind early on due to Pedro Neto’s goal (3rd minute). Sadio Mané (24th) brought the Reds back into the game following a strong assist from former Bundesliga professional Thiago. When Matthew Cash put Aston Villa ahead in Manchester in the 37th minute, Liverpool were only separated from the top of the table on goal difference.

Gündogan scores twice

In the second half, Klopp had to do without Thiago, who had been replaced injured. However, Aston Villa continued to help for the time being: Ex-Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho (69th) increased the score in Manchester to make it 2-0 for the guests. Villa coach and Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard was happy on the sidelines. But substitute Gündogan (76th and 81st) and Rodri (78th) turned the game around. Klopp (54) has been working in Liverpool since 2015, he had won the championship title with the traditional club in 2020.
