Mades rescued a juvenile guazu specimen in Pilar

Asuncion, IP Agency.- This morning, technicians from the regional office of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) in Ñeembucú successfully carried out the rescue of a juvenile guazú specimen in the Villa Paso neighborhood of the city of Pilar. The intervention took place after receiving a complaint about the presence of the wild animal in a commercial establishment in the area.

According to reports, the disoriented guazú went out onto the main street, where it was run over by a vehicle and then chased by dogs. This harassment forced the guazú to seek refuge in a neighboring house. It is suspected that the animal followed the channel of the Ñeembucú stream, which at that time had a low flow due to the extreme low water level, which led it to the street.

At the scene of the incident, National Police officers from the Villa Paso police station were present to draw up a report of the incident and notify the environmental crime prosecutor. Coordination between technicians from the regional office and local authorities facilitated the rapid rescue of the guazú.

The animal was carefully captured and taken to a veterinary clinic, where it received the necessary treatment for its injuries. Authorities and wildlife specialists will continue to monitor its recovery and will evaluate the possibility of reintroducing the guazu into its natural habitat once it is in optimal condition.

This rescue underlines the importance of collaboration between authorities and the community to protect and conserve wildlife, ensuring the well-being of animals that are affected by human activity and adverse environmental conditions.
