Madeleine Egle wins the luge world cup final ahead of Schulte

The world cup final of artificial track luge in Winterberg brought two Austrian victories on Saturday. Madeleine Egle prevailed in the individual competition ahead of her compatriot Lisa Schulte. Before that, Selina Egle, Madeleine’s younger sister, triumphed in doubles with Lara Michaela Kipp. In the men’s doubles, Juri Gatt/Riccardo Schöpf came third.

In the end, Madeleine Egle was 0.224 seconds ahead of Schulte, who finished on the podium for the first time this season. Hannah Prock as ninth (+ 0.782) rounded off the strong ÖRV result. The overall World Cup was won by Germany’s Julia Taubitz, while Madeleine Egle finished fourth.

Before that, Selina Egle and Kipp had won the last World Cup season competition in women’s doubles. The ÖRV duo was 0.339 seconds ahead of the Germans Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal and 0.385 seconds ahead of the South Tyrolean Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer, who had previously been the overall World Cup winners. Egle/Kipp secured second place in the final standings.

The last men’s doubles of the season went to Germany’s Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt, who also finished first in the overall standings. Gatt/Schöpf finished third (+0.132 seconds), their compatriots Yannick Müller/Armin Frauscher fifth (+0.177) and Thomas Steu/Lorenz Koller sixth (+0.226). It was enough for Gatt/Schöpf to finish fourth overall, while Müller/Frauscher ended the winter in sixth place, just ahead of Steu/Koller.
