Rajeev Chandrasekhar, in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), said that a Tata Group company will start manufacturing iPhones in India for the local and global markets.

The IT minister has shared a statement from the Taiwan-based company, according to which Wistron’s board has approved the sale of Wistron Infocomm Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd to Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd for $125 million.

Wistron did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Apple is touting India as a major contributor to its growth as the company looks to shift some production out of China.
