Earth, as an element of nature, is the theme of the 11th edition of MADE – Art and Design Market, which runs from May 31 to June 4. For the second consecutive year, the fair will be held at Complexo Pacaembu and next to the ArPa art fair.
With the purpose of presenting the author behind the piece, MADE is led by the partners Waldick Jatoba, Bruno Simões e Elcio Gozzoand features new names that promise to emerge on the national art and design circuit, in addition to educational and specialized visits, conversation circles and an institutional exhibition in honor of Paul Mendes da Rocha with the village Kamayurá. In its conception, the event positions itself as an international fair of collectible design. To this end, it has an Advisory Board that seeks to discuss contemporary design produced here and abroad and propose specific actions for the project, composed of prominent figures in the fields of design, contemporary art and architecture, they are: Claudia Moreira Salles, Marcio Kogan, Pascale Mussard, Mauricio Eugenio e corinna sagesser.
The curatorship of the event is signed by Waldick Jatobá and Bruno Simões – the latter is also responsible for the scenography, which features fluid materials such as cardboard and fabrics in earthy tones that will dress the fair to demarcate the area divided between more than 50 designers with products that explore different materials, such as wood, glass, ceramics, fiber, among others. “We kept the intimate format of the last edition, but we limited the number of professionals to make people more comfortable to delve deeper into the work developed behind each work”, explains Waldick Jatobá.
In this edition, Estúdio Campana debuts its participation in the fair, presenting the line Campanian polyphony, in partnership with Luciana Brito Galeria. Among the veterans are André Grippi, Estúdio Bia Rezende, Estúdio Carol Gay, Estúdio Ambrósio, Estúdio Dentro, Estúdio Niz, Giácomo Tomazzi Studio, Luisa Attab, Suka Braga, and many others.
Homage to Paulo Mendes da Rocha
Started in 2019 by Naná Mendes da Rocha and with the participation of Paul Mendes da Rocha, the Paulistano Xingu project will be exhibited during MADE. It is the result of a design investigation, in order to fulfill the architect’s original desire in the design of the Paulistano chair: to use fabric covers with natural fiber produced by indigenous peoples. In this case, the partnership took place with the Kamayurá village, located in the Alto Xingu.
Five chairs will be presented with covers woven by different people, each one carrying the collective process, part of its culture and the uniqueness of those who created them.
