The film, produced by Columbia Pictures and which recently debuted in Mexican cinemas, tells the story of how Cassandra Webb, a medical assistant played by Dakota Johnson, discovers that she might have mental power to predict the future.

But first they must face the present and the problems caused by Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim), the film’s villain.

“All women have intuition and we are taking it to another level with (Webb’s) clairvoyance,” said director SJ Clarkson, who made her debut with this film in the world of feature films.

He highlighted the “connection with reality” that this ability has and assured that it was “exciting” to explore a “more cerebral and psychological” superpower through a fantastic plot.

Johnson, also in an interview with EFEshared the director’s point of view, highlighting how one of the main reasons for accepting the role was the character of the three protagonists, who are intertwined by a strong sisterhood, sisterhood between women.

“We had a big storm the night before we started recording and the whole set was destroyed,” he said.

Still, thanks to the film’s “extraordinary team,” they rebuilt the sets in time.

The Mexican cinematographic panorama also has its space in ‘Madame Web’, since the actor José María Yazpik has a relevant role: his character, Santiago, must help the protagonists during their life process.

A different Madame Web

On the other hand, Johnson explained that the film differs from the historical Madame Web of the eighties comics, since this new installment of the Spider-Man imaginary explains the origins of the superheroine.

While in the illustrated vignettes Madame Web is a blind old woman who lives in a wheelchair, the character played by Johnson is a young woman from the early 21st century who has just discovered her clairvoyance.
