The application MacWhisper recently arrived in your version 3.0, which brings news that will certainly increase the features that have been added in recent months. With use of technology Whisperyes OpenAI (company responsible for ChatGPT), the function of the software is to transcribe audio content in a more intelligent and efficient way.
The main novelty of the update is the so-called Display Mode. With it, it is possible to view the entire content of the transcription on the screen as plain text at once, which facilitates a more “panoramic” view. There is now also an option to switch between different text display modes.
We also have, as you remembered the 9to5Mactools for export multiple transcription files at once, including for DOTE format, as well as the possibility to export a text file of an entire transcription. These features are very important to enable a more professional and versatile use of MacWhisper.
In the last two months, other news were added. Among them are a podcast modewhich allows you to transcribe the speeches of the audios of each of the participants, separating each transcription, in addition to the possibility of transcribe captured audio from the system. Thus, it is possible to use the app to extract spoken content from video callsfor example.
The app is also 40% faster due to improvements in its construction, according to the developer Jordi Bruin. It is still recommended, however, that you use a Mac with at least the M1 chip for satisfactory performance using MacWhisper — although it also works with Intel Macs. Also, only macOS Ventura 13 or later is supported.
As we have already mentioned, the software is also committed to protecting the privacy of users, since the audio is processed locally — without going through the cloud of the developer or third parties. There are several uses beyond mere transcription, including even exporting in subtitle format.
MacWhisper offers four transcription categories (Small, Basic, Medium, and Large), which vary around the accuracy of the task. To access the last two, you need to buy the app’s Pro license, which comes out for a single payment of 19€.
