The announcement of the Mac Studio did not pass unnoticed at the house of MacStadium who uses Apple machines for its online service offer following developers or hosts. Brian Stucki, vice president of the American company has tweeted on the arrival of a copy of the new Mac in one of the server cabinets, with two Mac Pros in their format rack (€7,199 in the basic version).
MacStadium is still in the preliminary stages of testing the Mac Studio to assess its performance and design a custom rail for it to fit as many as possible in the cabinets.
This is one of the peculiarities of MacStadium, by preferring Apple hardware you have to do with designs which, with rare exceptions (the Xserve and the Mac Pro 2019), are rarely designed for these uses. The iMac Pro and the 2013 Mac Pro are great examples of the ingenuity required.
The iMac Pro also makes a good rack server at MacStadium
The Mac mini, on the other hand, lends itself very well to filling cabinets. MacStadium has always been a big customer and the arrival of the M1 configurations has only confirmed this preference over the Mac Pro, which is more expensive and not necessarily more powerful in this type of function.
MacStadium: “the new Mac Pro will probably not be very popular with us”
Have you ever seen so many Mac minis in a single photo?
the Mac Studio seems on track to complete this offer but there is a problem for the moment: the lack of stock for the personalized configurations that the host needs and delays of a few months!
With us, the entry-level configuration in M1 Max is available between April 21/29 (Apple Stores have them on site, however) and the M1 Ultra between May 16 and 23. Taking options may refer to June 30.
