Macron says arms deliveries to Israel for use in Gaza should be stopped

– I believe that today we should prioritize returning to a political solution, and that we stop the supply of weapons to battles in Gaza, Macron said, adding that France does not supply such weapons to Israel.

He reiterated his concern because the conflict in Gaza continues despite constant calls for a ceasefire to be put in place.

– I don’t think we are being heard, Macron said.

– I think it is a mistake, also with regard to Israel’s security, he said, and added that he believes the conflict boils down to hatred.

The French president also said that preventing further escalation in Lebanon was a priority task.

– Lebanon cannot become a new Gaza, he said. Macron announced that France will host an international conference to provide humanitarian aid to Lebanon and strengthen security in the south of the country.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came out harshly against Macron following the statements.

– When Israel fights against barbaric forces led by Iran, all civilized countries should stand firmly by Israel’s side. Nevertheless, President Macron and other Western leaders are now calling for a halt to arms deliveries to Israel. They should be ashamed of themselves, Netanyahu said in a statement issued from his office.
