Blincoln, EU warns of ‘responsibility’
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the discovery of a mass burial site following Russian troops withdrew from Izium, Ukraine, as an act of atrocities by Russia.
“I condemn in the strongest language the atrocities perpetrated in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian Igeum,” Macron said on his Twitter account, according to the AFP news agency.
“The perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions,” he added.
The day before, Ukraine raised suspicions of war crimes by Russia, claiming that regarding 450 bodies and 10 torture chambers were found in the eastern city of Izium, where the Russian army had withdrawn.
The US and the European Union (EU) also pointed to Russia as the culprit.
“The EU is deeply shocked by the inhumane actions of the Russian military,” said Rousseff Borrell, the European Union’s senior representative for foreign and security policy.
US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln said Russia was behaving horribly and would be held responsible for its war crimes.
Russia has denied allegations of civilian killings in Ukraine.
