Macron and Sanchez are looking for “effective solutions” to curb energy prices

Paris: On Monday followingnoon, Emmanuel Macron received Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Paris to agree on “effective solutions” to high energy prices due to the war in Ukraine, ahead of a European summit that will be partially devoted to the issue.

The French president said when receiving Sanchez at the Elysee Palace that it is regarding “bringing effective solutions closer to limiting the rise in gas prices, limiting the impact on the price of electricity, obtaining common storage solutions in Europe and diversifying our sources of supply.”

Protect families and businesses

He told reporters that the priority was to “prepare to protect families and businesses in the short term and our resilience in the medium term” while maintaining “our energy security for the coming winter.”

This urgent issue is high on the agenda of the European summit on Thursday and Friday in Brussels, where the NATO and G7 summits with US President Joe Biden will also be held.

Pedro Sanchez had met Friday in Rome with Italian, Greek and Portuguese officials “to take a common approach to push the European Commission and other member states to take important preventive measures for all countries,” according to Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, who spoke regarding “joint” gas purchases and storage.
