Macri had lunch with ambassadors from the seven major Western powers and spoke about the elections

The extensive lunch, arranged at the German diplomatic headquarters located in the Belgrano neighborhood, gave rise to a talk where the national situation and the future occupied central places. The ex-president Mauricio Macri participated this followingnoon in a meeting with the ambassadors of the G-7, representatives of the seven most industrialized Western powers.

According to sources close to the former president, and despite the strict silence regarding what was discussed between his protagonists, Macri “shared his view of the world situation, the political and economic news of the region and the country.” Accompanied by Fulvio PompeoSecretary of International Relations of PRO, and the national deputy Cornelia Schmidt LiermannMacri also said that the opposition coalition is “prepared” for the 2023 elections, in which he will try to return to power, although “there was no talk” regarding his possible candidacy, and yes regarding the Paso as a way to settle that application between radicals and macros.

While they tasted as a starter a salad with goat cheese, gnocchi with shrimp, meat with asparagus and a chocolate dessert, they listened to Macri, in addition to the host Ulrich Health (Ambassador of Germany), diplomats Marc Stanley (USA); Claudia Scherer-Efosse (France); Christine Hayes (United Kingdom); Fabrizio Lucentini (Italia); Reid Sirrs (Canada) and Kenji Shami (Japan).

In a climate of “friendship” as described by one of the Argentine diners, Macri answered questions regarding “the world, the region and Argentina”, with reasoning that he usually shares in public, with a critical look at the government of Alberto Fernandez and its links with several of its international partners, such as Russia, Venezuela or Cuba.

He told them, according to witnesses, that Together for Change is “prepared for what is to come,” in obvious allusion to next year’s elections, and his doubts regarding “how to navigate” this stage, with Serge Massa on his first full day as finance minister. The war in Ukraine, and the incident between the United States and China over the congresswoman’s trip Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan also had its place in the conversation.

During the meeting, Macri reiterated to the ambassadors (several of them European) his commitment to the European Union-Mercosur agreement, signed in the final months of the Cambiemos administration, but still pending effective application.

Since leaving the presidency at the end of 2019, Macri has been active in the international arena. Not only because of his commitment to the FIFA foundation, but also because of his links with former presidents such as Donald Trump, whom he visited in the United States. He also already knew several of the ambassadors present, such as Stanley, Scherer-Efose and Lucentini, with whom he had previously shared talks.

Ambassador Sante, meanwhile, communicated through the social network twitter a photo and a brief comment regarding the meeting, without forgetting a suggestive detail: sweeping the chancellery led by santiago cafieroas a formal way of “informing” regarding the realization of the lunch with the former president.
