According to recent data from StatCounter, which analyzed the global market share of desktop operating systems from June 2022 to June 2023, Windows is still the dominant player, with a share of 68.15 percent. There was a slight drop in macOS usage from June to August 2022, but it came back from August to October. The tipping point came in December, when the adoption rate rose regarding 22 percent, and since then there has been a steady and gradual increase in adoption. ChromeOS has an adoption rate of 4.15%, while Linux lags behind at 3.08%. An unknown operating system also holds a share of 3.23%, which might be an undetected Windows update. There was no new Mac model from Apple in December 2022 but in January 2023 the company introduced the MacBook Pro models with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets. The launch is expected to have played a vital role in increasing the adoption of macOS since this operating system is only available on Macs. According to analytics firm Counterpoint Research, iPhones have overtaken all other smartphone brands in popularity in the United States. The Financial Times reported that Apple achieved its highest ever market share of 50 percent in June, surpassing the entire Android ecosystem. This was possible due to the iPhone’s “active install rule”, which includes all users who continue to use an iOS device following purchasing a used device. According to Apple, 81% of all iPhones are running iOS 16. Source: Technology News: macOs is the second most popular desktop operating system in the world. Related news:
