MacOS Sonoma update installs without user consent

2024-01-31 11:03:56

Among other things in Apple-Forum and up Social Media An increasing number of Mac users are reporting that an update to MacOS 14 Sonoma is being installed without consent. This is said to occur particularly often if MacOS 12 Monterey is currently in use on the computer. There are also reports of the corresponding problem for MacOS 13 Ventura.

Self-installation is not entirely trivial. After all, many users consciously decide to put off an update. For example, to wait and see whether the new version brings with it any teething problems. It is not yet clear whether the problem is a bug. Many of those affected at least report that they have deactivated automatic OS upgrades and that the corresponding process should therefore not actually be initiated.

There is currently no fix for the problem available. The only solution: If the update installs unintentionally, users can restore their system to an earlier version. However, this requires a complete backup and installation via an appropriate boot medium. (sta)
