macOS 14.1 brought to Macs what appears to be the equivalent of the system for detecting the presence of liquid in the connection port of an iPhone or iPad. A “liquiddetectiond” system process runs in the background and its role seems to be to detect the presence of liquid in the Mac’s USB-C ports, relieving 9to5Mac (we can see it in operation even on desktop Macs, a priori unlikely to be confronted with spilled liquid).
On an Intel iMac.
This service is described by “Liquid Detection and Corrosion Mitigation Daemon”, just like its equivalent on iPhone and iPad. On these two devices, one message appears when the presence of liquid was noted in their connector when connecting a Lightning or USB-C cable.
On the Mac, this system process would only be there for analysis — for service technicians? — without displaying anything visible to the user. No support page, like that for iPhones, is published on this subject. And this is not specific to the latest Macs since we can see it present on Intel models with macOS 14.1.
