macOS 13.4 and watchOS 9.5 end beta installation profiles, like iOS 16.4 ????

With iOS 16.4, Apple implemented a new system allowing developers to install betas of the iPhone and iPad operating system. Profiles are abandoned in favor of activation in the settings: if the user’s identifier is associated with a Developer or Beta Software program (the latter being intended for the grand public), then the device will be able to benefit from the latest betas. Note, however, that there are still profiles for iOS 16.5, Apple obviously does not want to rush things.

Not surprisingly, Apple is extending this system to Macs with macOS 13.4 and the Apple Watch with watchOS 9.5. To install dev or public betas on these devices, the principle is the same, you will have to register in the settings General > Software update (on Mac) or in the settings General in the Watch app, then Software update > Beta updates (for the watch of course). Simply select the type of beta desired. No need to install a profile beforehand, therefore!

Apple is seeking to put an end to profile traffic that allows anyone to install betas without going through official channels. It is indeed quite easy to get your hands on these small files.

Update – Users whose ID is not registered in one of Apple’s beta programs now see an alert in the settings, as @Real-X83 :
