macOS 13.3 simplifies the display of all definitions available for the Mac screen as well as for external displays. In System Settings > Monitors > Advanced…, there is a new dedicated option, “Show resolutions (sic) as a list”. A click on it replaces the graphic selection (“Larger font”, “Default”, “More space” or intermediate) by a list of definitions in pixels.
This list is less telling for novices than the presentation with the previews — this is the reason why it is not activated by default —, but it is useful for advanced users who want to set their screen with a definition that comes out of the batch. The list indeed includes more choices than the default selection for external monitors. A “Show all resolutions” button even reveals all the definitions supported by macOS for the selected screen. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, you have to turn to utilities like BetterDisplay which allow you to configure your display even more finely.
Although the “Show resolutions as a list” option is new, we can display this list for a very long time by holding the Option key (⌥) when you click on one of the proposed definitions (“Larger font”, “Default”, “More space” or intermediate). This new option therefore makes the complete list of definitions more accessible… provided you have the idea of searching the Advanced sub-menu.
