While it’s easy to transfer files between competing platforms using online services, when you have to do the same thing with a hard drive, you can sometimes hit a snag. It is to solve this problem that OWC publishes MacDrive 11a Windows software that allows you to use storage media formatted with one of Apple’s file systems on a PC.
Six years following starting support for APFS, the publisher finally finishes the job: MacDrive 11 allows both reading and writing (this is new) on APFS disks. He’s not the first to do it. APFS for Windows by Paragon Software was already capable of this, but OWC has arguments to make: its software also manages case-sensitive APFS disks as well as HFS disks (HFS+, HFSJ+, HFSX, HFSXJ), when Paragon markets software for each type of file system.
MacDrive 11 allows for example to explore a Time Machine backup disk from a PC. It can also be used to create an APFS or HFS+ disc from a PC for later use on Mac. It handles the niceties of APFS, like snapshots and clone files. And if for some reason you want to use it on a Windows running on a Mac in Boot Camp or in a virtual machine, it’s possible.
Two editions are offered: the Standard at $49.99 and the Pro at $69.99 which adds support for SoftRAID and Apple RAID 0/1 volumes. MacDrive 11 works on Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2019/2022. A free demo version usable for five days is available.
