the research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) published today a new survey regarding the popularity of Apple’s computer lines which, with the arrival of the new Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra chip, finally completed its transition to Apple Silicon.
According to the data, 43% of the people interviewed said they had a MacBook Prowhile 34% claimed to have a MacBook Air. When added together, the two models correspond to 77% of all Mac sales — up 3% compared to March of last year.
With the launch of the 15″ MacBook Air, it is possible that these numbers will change significantly in an upcoming survey, as now consumers no longer need to jump to the much more expensive 16″ MacBook Pro if they want a laptop with a larger screen. Furthermore, it is quite possible that the Air line will once once more take the lead if we consider the global market, since CIRP surveys usually only cover the US market.
The fact that the Pro line has three models of laptops (13″, 14″ and 16″) once morest just two of the Air line (until March; M1 and M2 models, both 13″) should also be taken into account.
Just behind the two lines of laptops, we have the iMac com 10% the market, even though it has been more than two years without an upgrade. Although it represents a relatively small share of Mac sales, the all-in-one still accounts for approximately half of all desktop sales.
Despite its somewhat salty price, it is the Mac Pro who appears in fourth place in the survey, being the Mac of choice for 9% of the interviewees. When we only consider Apple computers, the Mac Pro also accounts for approximately half of desktop sales.
Completing the list, we have the Mac mini com 3% and the Mac Studio with just 1% of sales — detail that can be considered a bit curious, given the difference in price between the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro which, until March, had not yet been updated to Apple Silicon. Since the Mac Pro now starts at $7,000, that’s also likely to change in the near future.
