MacBook Air 11”/13” and MacBook Pro 13” (2014) soon to be obsolete

Several Macs will soon join the elephant graveyard the list of obsolete products from Apple. These are the 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air released in early 2014, and the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro in mid-2014. From April 30, these laptops will therefore be considered obsolete, which does not mean that they will be good to throw in the trash.

Admittedly, it will be impossible to install macOS Monterey on these machines… officially. Because there is an effective hack, even if a little complicated to implement, so that these Macs can still take advantage of the latest Apple OS. Of course, these laptops remain compatible with macOS Big Sur.

Apple considers obsolete products that have not been manufactured for more than seven years, and for which the manufacturer no longer performs hardware repairs. According to the internal memo that we were able to consult, these three MacBooks are still eligible for battery replacement. For other parts, you will have to go elsewhere than in Apple Stores or authorized centers.
