Mábel Lara and María Jimena Duzán, among the women who will talk with ELN – Peace Process – Politics

“In order to broaden the participation of women in the Peace Dialogues Table with the ELN, The national government has decided to incorporate four more women into its negotiating team“, said the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace on Friday night. These are the new members and their resumes.

Nigeria Rentería, Mábel Lara, Adelaida Jiménez and María Jimena Duzán are the four women who officially join the negotiating delegation of the government with the insurgency.

Nigeria Rentería is a lawyer from the Universidad Gran Colombia and an advocate for indigenous rights and ethnic minorities. Previously, she was in the government peace delegation in Havana and was a candidate for the Governor of Chocó for the ASI party.

According to the official statement, Adelaida Jiménez is “a Presbyterian pastor, with a degree in theology and education with an emphasis on community promotion. She is also a member of the World Council of Churches.”

For her part, Mábel Lara is a renowned journalist and political scientist who has received awards such as the India Catalina, the Simón Bolívar and the First Generation from the UN and the Government of Sweden. In addition, she was the head of the New Liberalism list for the Senate in the 2022 legislative elections.

Likewise, María Jimena Duzán is a famous journalist and writer who has closely followed the armed conflict in Colombia. She was the founder of the Graduate Program in Journalism at the Universidad de los Andes and has a vast career working in various media, with more than 30 years of experience in the field.
