Maasmechelen residents awakened by explosions in the middle of the night: threats were tagged on a house

Unknown persons detonated homemade devices overnight from Friday to Saturday in Eisden-Tuinwijk (Maasmechelen), in the province of Limburg, not far from the Dutch border.

Residents of Bevrijdingslaan were first woken around half past midnight by a loud bang, which rattled the windows of nearby homes. In the followingmath, a fire broke out in a garden shed in one of the houses on the street. A second detonation was heard once more when a neighbor saw two masked people fleeing. The authors also spray-tagged nearby the words “Wie praat die gaat” (He who speaks will die).

Firefighters, police, the army’s bomb disposal service and the forensic laboratory were dispatched to the scene. The facts, which are probably linked to the drug scene, did not claim any victims.

In the targeted house lives the family of a 19-year-old young man from Maasmechelen, who has been behind bars since Monday, like his 18-year-old Dutch girlfriend, in particular in connection with an attack. with explosives having recently targeted a building in Brasschaat, in the Antwerp region.
