The Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) filed charges once morest the Secretary of the Supreme Court (MA) Hasbi Hasan, for allegedly accepting bribes and gratuities related to the handling of legal cases. The charges include a prison sentence of 13 years and 8 months.
Corruption Eradication Commission Prosecutor Ariawan Agustiartono conveyed the charges at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday, March 14 2024. According to him, Hasbi was proven guilty and should be sentenced to prison, along with a fine of IDR 1 billion. If the fine is not paid, it will be replaced by imprisonment for 6 months.
“The defendant was sentenced to prison for 13 years and 8 months and fined IDR 1 billion. If the fine cannot be paid, it will be replaced by 6 months in prison,” revealed Ariawan, Thursday (14/3).
Apart from that, the prosecutor also asked the judge to order the payment of compensation amounting to IDR 3.88 billion, which must be paid within one month following the legal decision becomes permanent. If Hasbi is unable to pay, then there is a request for asset confiscation, with the additional threat of imprisonment for 3 years if he is unable to pay.
In his indictment, the prosecutor assessed that Hasbi violated various articles of the Corruption Crime Law and the Criminal Code, and damaged public trust in the Supreme Court. In this case, there were no mitigating considerations except that Hasbi had no previous criminal record.
Ariawan emphasized that Hasbi must remain in detention during the trial process. This demand was conveyed in an effort to consistently eradicate corruption and as a form of justice for society. (Z-10)
