The time has come to relaunch our political action, to react to a context of disengagement and disaffection of citizens. All this cannot be stopped”. Word of Giuseppe Conte who, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, speaks of his relationship with the co-founder of the 5 Star Movement, Beppe Grillo. “We have neither seen nor heard from each other. But I have no problem doing so”.
As for the future of the Movement, Conte explains: “Now we need to go beyond direct democracy. To involve citizens, it is no longer enough to call them to vote on a question prepared from above, we need to make them participate in the proposal and discussion phase”. Will you change the name? “The citizens who participate in our process will decide if this is a topic to put on the table. It does not depend on me, but on our community. There will be no political mediation on my part and on the current political leadership. I will not be the one to direct this refoundation by deciding what should or should not be discussed. Everything must be done without undue conditioning from the outside. So yes, if the question is raised, we will vote on it”, underlines the M5s leader.
And the two-term limit? “Idem,” he replies. Finally, Conte speaks about alliances: “Our goal is to send this disastrous government home and carry forward a political project of great quality both in terms of content and alliances. Let’s say that we are at the center of the progressive front. In the sense that we are central. Nothing about Renzi surprises me anymore,” Conte replies. “To beat Meloni, we need serious projects and reliable traveling companions. For us, public ethics are essential, and will always remain at the center of our political action. We can only plan with those who, in their actions and behavior, demonstrate that they share this principle.”
