M, F, X or… nothing: what David Clarinval proposes for gender mentions on the identity card

The item is on the agenda of the Council of Ministers this Friday. While discussions are still underway, it seems that the MR has been reluctant to the project put on the table. Rather than removing any mention of sex, Deputy Prime Minister MR David Clarinval would like a new “X” box to appear so that people who feel neither woman nor man have the choice to define themselves differently.

Another solution would be simply to remove the reference to gender. But from an administrative point of view, the Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden would have meant that this is an unrealizable possibility in terms of production. Such a solution would suppose the production of “à la carte” identity cards and this is not possible.
