Lyon MP Marie-Charlotte Garin is working on a bill

This week, Spain’s parliament voted to adopt menstrual leave.

This is a first in Europe, the law will allow women suffering from painful periods to obtain sick leave from their doctor. And it has been much debated on the other side of the Pyrenees, with criticism of the possible negative consequences on the labor market for women.

Future discrimination and brake on hiring this menstrual leave? Not at all according to Marie-Charlotte Garin. The EELV MP for the 3rd district of Lyon has started work with her parliamentary colleagues Sandrine Rousseau and Sébastien Peytavie to propose a similar bill in France within a few weeks.

This work currently includes taking the temperature with unions and feminist associations.

Sébastien Peytavie (Génération.s) nevertheless took the lead by announcing that he would set up menstrual leave for his parliamentary collaborators from March 1.

According RMC, Marie-Charlotte Garin and Sandrine Rousseau could do the same. They would also try to convince EELV to introduce menstrual leave within the group in the National Assembly, in order to emulate and convince the deputies even before the date of the vote.
