Luzardo silenced the Mets

He shone in the World Classic, in his last Spring Training appearances and now at the start of the 2023 MLB season. Jesus Luzardo led the Marlins 2-1 win over the Mets this Friday.

The left-hander pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing just a couple of singles and five strikeouts. 51 of his 91 pitches were in the strike zone.

Although he conceded four tickets, he always found a way to get the zeros to leave with an immaculate ERA (0.00) and ultimately score the first victory of the year.

Jorge Soler hit a solo shot in the second inning, off David Peterson, to back up Luzardo early. And Jazz Chisholm Jr. repeated the dose in the eighth, once morest John Curtiss, to put definitive figures.

The only stripe for the Mets came in the ninth with a home run by Pete Alonso once morest AJ Puk, who nevertheless earned the save.

JT Chargois (1.1) and Dylan Floro (1.0) had emulated Luzardo’s dominance to keep the shutout until the eighth inning.

Peterson took the loss following 5.0 innings of eight hits and one run, walking one and striking out four to post a 1.80 ERA.
