Danube Bridge
Written by Rainer Ackermann
The 20th crossing over Hungary’s largest river is nearing completion, and the 21st project is already underway: In the future, a bridge will span a good 750 meters over the river near Mohács.
As the business portal vg.hu writes, there is a winner of the tender from the Ministry of Construction and Transport: Duna Aszfalt Zrt. was awarded the contract for the major project with the cheapest offer of 295 billion forints (approx. 745 million euros). Strabag had wanted to estimate 310 billion forints and Swietelsky more than 315 billion forints for the work. Last December, Minister János Lázár himself estimated the project at 300-320 billion forints.
The Danube bridge near Kalocsa, which is expected to be handed over in the summer, is said to have been built for less than 100 billion forints, i.e. a third of the cost of the Mohács project. However, the construction project in the south, which is expected to be completed in summer 2028, will be much broader. Among other things, the main road 51 will be connected to the M6 motorway on the other side of the Danube, for which almost 40 km of new roads will have to be built.
