David defeats Goliath: British Airways started flights between Luxembourg and London City five months ago. Until then it had been a monopoly route for Luxair. Now the British are giving up once more.
When it comes to the financial industry, Luxembourg is a world power. The small state ranks ninth in the asset management category of the Global Financial Centers Index, and even third in Europe. Only Frankfurt and London are ranked higher.
It is therefore not surprising that Luxair has always offered flights directly to the heart of the UK’s financial centre. The national airline of the Grand Duchy flies between Luxembourg and London City Airport up to seven times a day. Thanks to many business guests, it was a lucrative monopoly route.
Responds with an increase in frequency
But resigned in January British Airways and Luxair attack. From the end of Marchz It also offered daily flights between London City and Luxembourg. This put pressure on prices and the previous monopolist reacted to the attack and increased the frequency on the route.
This strategy appears to have worked. Because British Airways gives up the route once more, like the newspaper Luxembourg word reported. From the end of October, the British will no longer offer the route. Luxair then got their monopoly back. British Airways will then only fly between Luxembourg and London Heathrow.
