The Prussian Sea Trade Foundation was founded in 1983 by the State of Berlin from the remaining assets of the Prussian State Bank. She gives out several awards. The Berlin Literature Prize has already gone to Herta Müller, Clemens J. Setz, Lukas Bärfuss and Rainald Goetz.
Because the foundation is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, an anniversary prize for science will also be awarded. The award is endowed with 20,000 euros and goes to the cultural historian Agnieszka Pufelska. The Rahel Varnhagen von Ense Medal, endowed with 10,000 euros, goes to the publisher and author Christoph Links. The awards will be presented in September.
