A 55-year-old from Lungau is strongly suspected of having attacked a 37-year-old opponent with a kitchen knife on Saturday followingnoon and seriously injured him in the neck area. The police announced this in a broadcast on Sunday followingnoon. The bloody crime took place in a community in Oberlungau – in the apartment of the 37-year-old victim.

According to police spokeswoman Ingrid Planitzer, the victim suffered “life-threatening injuries” during the crime. According to the latest information, his life is now out of danger. The 37-year-old was taken to the Salzburg University Hospital.

According to Planitzer, the accused’s cell phone was used to alert the fire department, which in turn notified the rescue service and the police. “Whoever called the emergency services is still the subject of investigations by the State Criminal Police Office,” said Planitzer. When the police officers arrived at the victim’s apartment, the emergency doctor was already treating his wound. The 55-year-old alleged perpetrator was still at the scene and was arrested. The knife was seized. Both men were heavily intoxicated at the time of the crime.

The criminal police have already questioned the accused. He speaks of significant gaps in his memory and, according to Planitzer, might not contribute significantly to clarifying the crime. The 55-year-old was taken to prison on orders from the public prosecutor. The investigation is ongoing on suspicion of attempted murder or, at most, suspicion of intentional serious bodily harm.
