Lung cancer: A fund in honor of Mike Bossy will be created

A new fund to fight lung cancer named in honor of Mike Bossy will be launched during the meeting between the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders on Saturday.

The legendary hockey player passed away last April after a battle with the disease, and the Bossy family has partnered with Lung Cancer Canada to increase support, awareness and education about screening for this disease, she said. announced in a press release on Wednesday.

Through this fund, we want to pay tribute to him and honor his convictions while allowing other patients to live healthier and longer,” said Mike Bossy’s daughter, Tanya.

Its launch will take place at UBS Arena in New York, in the city where the former prolific scorer has spent his entire professional career, while all funds from half and half of the evening will be donated to the good cause.

The Mike Bossy Memorial Fund was designed to support a three-pronged campaign: fight against dehumanization and raise public awareness of lung cancer, promote the launch of the Quebec Cancer Screening Program, and establish an educational program for patients and doctors.

“We are extremely grateful to the Bossy family for their lung cancer awareness and support efforts. This tribute is a great way to honor Mike Bossy’s legacy and address the dehumanization still associated with lung cancer,” said Lung Cancer Canada Director Shem Singh.

According to the organization, 9,000 Quebecers will be diagnosed with lung cancer and 6,200 people will die from it in 2023.
