Doha: Lulu Hypermarket also participated in the awareness campaign led by Doha Municipality to avoid the use of plastic bags among the people. Lulu Hypermarket on D Ring Road became the venue for the International Plastic Bag Free Day campaign. Recently, an order was issued banning single-use plastic bags. A week ago, the Ministry of Environment had stated that the draft proposal approved directly by the Cabinet will be implemented from November 15. According to this, single-use plastic bags should not be sold or handed over in any company, shopping center or institution in the country from the specified date.

The Doha Municipality campaign under the Ministry of Municipalities is being launched as a part of creating awareness among the public regarding avoiding the use of plastic. Instead of plastic, alternatives such as bags made of eco-friendly and soil-soluble materials, reusable plastic bags, and paper-cotton bags are suggested. In a ceremony held at Lulu Hypermarket, Ali Al Qahtani, Head of Inspection Unit, Food Control Department, Ministry of Municipalities, Dr. Asma Abubakar, Dr. Dr. Hiba Abdul Hakeem, Lulu Group Director. Muhammad Altaf also participated.

Ali Al-Qahtani said that such a ceremony was organized at Lulu Hypermarket as part of the awareness programs that are being conducted at the shopping mall under the Doha Municipality for two days. He clarified that awareness will be held at Lulu and Carrefour malls this week. As part of the campaign, reusable plastic bags were given to customers who visited Lulu Hypermarket. A booth introducing eco-friendly products was also set up. Lulu, the leading hypermarket in Qatar, has been implementing various eco-friendly projects for two decades. Various hypermarkets are following innovative schemes to reduce carbon emissions and as part of sustainability.
