Lula would have the final vote in a possible OAS resolution on Venezuela

After Brazil abstained in the first OAS vote, the United States is betting that Lula’s government will increase pressure on the political issue in Venezuela.

For their part, the ambassadors to the OAS agreed that they will wait for their governments to approve the resolution, since until they receive the necessary support, there will be no special session on Venezuela to prevent the document from being rejected again.

According to Infobae, the future of the resolution is in Lula’s hands. If the progressive president supports the initiative, The project on elections will be discussed this Friday and other countries will join.

This new resolution would seek condemn the repression of protests which began after the elections. It also demands that the electoral authorities publish the total and broken down results of the process.

On July 31, a resolution on the Venezuelan elections did not have the necessary support in the OAS. The initiative received 17 votes in favor, but had 11 abstentions and five absences. Colombia, Brazil and Mexico did not support the resolution.
