The meeting will be outside the official agenda of the Celac summit, but it will acquire a strong political content. The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silvawill meet with Cristina Kirchner on Monday in Buenos Aires, at a halt to his protocol and diplomatic activities within the framework of the regional meeting, which from Tuesday will be headed by the Argentine president Alberto Fernandez.
The meeting between Lula and Cristina was confirmed by diplomatic sources, which, however, did not specify if the meeting will take place in the Senate or elsewhere, such as the Homeland Institute. The Brazilian president and the Argentine vice president are political allies in the region and Kirchnerism puts the São Paulo leader as an example of who suffered the lawfare but he recovered and returned to power.
Lula will arrive in Buenos Aires this Sunday night, around 9:00 p.m., and from Monday morning he will fulfill a protocol agenda that will include the traditional floral offering in Plaza San Martín, a subsequent side-by-side meeting with President Fernández, an act on human rights at the Casa Rosada and a meeting with Argentine and Brazilian businessmen to promote commercial exchange.
That same Monday, according to the sources consulted by THE NATION, Lula will make a stop in the agenda that the Itamaraty Palace – the Brazilian Foreign Ministry – has drawn up to meet Cristina, in a meeting that might contain more political than economic elements. In fact, Lula had posed with a beanie “CFRP 2023″ the night he won the presidential election Jair Bolsonaro.
The political affinity between the two extended to an agreement between the Lula Institute and the Homeland Institute, which included presentations by the Brazilian president and the Argentine vice president in times of the coronavirus pandemic. According to information from political sources, the possible appointment of Dilma Rousseff as ambassador in Argentina would be one of the reasons for conversation on Monday between Lula and Cristina Kirchner.
