MOSCOW (Archyde.com) – Rabil Maganov, 67, chairman of Russia’s second-largest oil company Lukoil, died following falling out of a window in a hospital on Saturday. Two people familiar with the matter said. The exact circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. In Russia, however, there have been a series of mysterious deaths of businessmen, especially in the energy industry.

State news agency TASS reported that Maganov had committed suicide, citing law enforcement officials. Maganov was hospitalized following suffering a heart attack and was also taking antidepressants, the official said.

Three people close to Maganov told Archyde.com, however, that they mightn’t believe he committed suicide.

Another person close to Lukoil said Maganov was believed to have committed suicide within Lukoil management. However, the official does not have concrete evidence to support that.

Moscow police were contacted by Archyde.com and asked to speak to the Federal Investigative Commission, which did not respond to a request for comment.

Lukoil is a private company that competes with state-owned energy giant Rosneft. “Thousands of employees are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to the remaining family of Mr. Maganov,” it said in a statement.
