Lukashenko threatens Europe – I will fill you with immigrants

The Belarusian president has warned that he does not intend to stop migrants passing through Belarus on their way to European Union member states. “You put a noose around my neck in the form of sanctions, and then demand that I protect the EU from migrant flows? This is not going to happen,” Lukashenko said in an interview on Russian television.

The European Union and Poland’s government have accused Russian President Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko of deliberately pushing irregular migrants into the EU from 2021 by providing them with visas and transport. The main route leads through Belarus to the Polish border.

“Their aim is to show all of Europe that the EU’s external borders are not controlled, in order to cause political consequences: to strengthen the extreme right, which promises to overthrow the EU from within,” the Polish foreign minister said in June Radoslav Sikorsky.

Poland has shielded much of its border with a 5.5-meter-high fence and electronic surveillance systems. However, attempts to enter the country illegally are recorded every day. In the last three days alone, border guards have recorded 201 such attempts.

Ukraine has deployed more than 120,000 troops along its border with Belarus, the Belarusian president also claimed on Sunday, pointing out that Minsk has deployed almost a third of its armed forces along the entire border.

He did not say exactly how many troops have been deployed. Belarus’ professional army numbers about 48,000 troops and about 12,000 troops on the state border, according to the 2022 Military Balance report of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).

“Seeing their aggressive policy, we have presented there and placed in certain places – in case of war, it will be a defense – our army along the entire border,” Lukashenko said in an interview on Russian state television.
