In the category “family scrambles for a package of sorrel”, we ask the Doncic family. Engaged in a legal dispute between him and his mother over the rights to his brand, it would seem, however, that Luka Magic has reached an agreement with her. All’s well That ends well ?
For several months now, Luka Doncic was engaged in a dispute with… his mother. What regarding ? That of the rights to the “LUKA DONCIC 7” brand, a brand created to represent the Slovenian. Mirjam Poterbin, Luka’s mother, had – at the request of her son – created the registered trademark in the name of the player, a trademark of which she was then the full manager.
But following several seasons in the NBA, the young Luka Magic began to understand the need to regain control of his own brand, in particular to protect himself from possible interference from his mother. However, requests from the company Luka99 Inc apparently did not receive responses from Mirjam Poterbin. At the time of the creation of his new logo, affixed to his signature shoes among others, Doncic might not have it validated by the USTPO (national office responsible for the validation of trademarks registered in the USA), in particular because of the presence of the “LUKA DONCIC 7” mark.
As a result, the dispute took on a new dimension. Unable to resolve the dispute any other way, Luka Doncic filed a petition last September to have his mother’s trademark removed from the trademark office. But following three months of legal disputes, it seems the family have finally reached an agreement.
“Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has ended a battle with his mother over trademark rights using his name, according to a report from the Trademark Court Appeals Court released Thursday” remarks reported on the legal website Law 360
If the details of the agreement and its content are not known, we prefer that to seeing a family torn apart over wheat issues. And then on a sporting level, the Mavericks will need a 120% Luka Doncic for the rest of the season, especially since the success of Dallas this season seems to depend very (too) mainly on that of their maestro.
NBA star Luka Doncic withdrew his bid to cancel a “Luka Doncic 7″ trademark owned by his mother at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.https://t.co/AZTpSRocYS
