Luis Suárez: “Uruguay gave everything”

Sports Desk, Jul 10 (EFE).- Luis Suárez, the top scorer in the history of the Uruguayan national soccer team, on Wednesday excused the difficulties that prevented Uruguay from avoiding Colombia’s qualification for the final of the Copa América in the United States.

“The group gave everything, we fought until the end,” said the 37-year-old striker.

‘El Pistolero’ Suárez regretted the departure due to injury of Tottenham Hostpur’s creative Rodrigo Bentancur and admitted that it undermined the Celeste’s firepower in front of Camilo Vargas’ goal.

“We mightn’t equalise, we tried, but we leave with the feeling that the team gave everything, to the maximum,” he said.

Charlotte (USA), Jul 10 (EFE).- Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez referred to the tension with the Colombian players at the end of the Copa América semi-final and said that “what bothers me the most is the way they drool.”

Uruguay and Colombia ended up fighting following the Colombian team eliminated the Celeste with a 0-1 in a match played in Charlotte (North Carolina) this Wednesday.

“There is always argument, laughter, words, whatever. But what is most annoying is the way of drooling, of celebrating, it makes no sense,” said Suarez in statements in the mixed zone.

“We eliminated Brazil and no one got past any of the Brazilian players. On the contrary, we went to greet them, we are colleagues on the pitch, we know the suffering that comes with a defeat,” said Suarez.

“Passing like that in front of a colleague is ugly, but the person above is watching everything and everything comes back,” he added.

Inter Miami’s ‘9’ also said that “as a group we have to stand up, be strong, be united.”

“You’re going to have to go through situations like this many times,” he said.

The Uruguayan striker is 37 years old and has played a secondary role in Marcelo Bielsa’s team in this Copa América.
