Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), in turmoil following his forced kiss on player Jenni Hermoso following the final of the Women’s World Cup, has been provisionally suspended, for an initial period 90 days, by FIFA. The world football body announced it on Saturday in a press release.

“The chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Jorge Ivan Palacio, has decided to provisionally suspend Mr. Luis Rubiales from all football-related activity at national and international level,” FIFA said in a statement. “This suspension, which takes effect today (Saturday, editor’s note), is for an initial period of 90 days, pending the disciplinary proceedings opened once morest Mr. Luis Rubiales on Thursday August 24. »

Friday, at the meeting Rubiales had refused to resign at the extraordinary general meeting. The Spanish football boss, in office since 2018, had denounced “false feminism” which “does not seek the truth” and castigated an “attempted social assassination”.
