Luis Rubiales, detained by the Civil Guard upon arrival in Madrid

CASTELLO. The Civil Guard has arrested the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales as soon as he landed at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport from the Dominican Republic, sources close to the case have informed EFE.

The sources have added that the agents of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) have carried out the arrest as soon as they landed at terminal 1 of the airport, where a van of the body was waiting for him in which he was taken to the Civil Guard offices in Decks.

The purpose of the arrest is to read him his rights, interrogate him and intercept his mobile devices, according to the same sources, who have specified that later it will be the judge of Majadahonda (Madrid) who is investigating Rubiales for alleged corruption crimes who will decide when he will be arrested. summons to testify in court.

Luis Rubiales was scheduled to return to Spain from the Dominican Republic this Saturday, although he has brought forward his return to Spain to this Wednesday precisely one day after UCO agents registered his home in the Caribbean country where he had resided for a few months.

However, his defense sources have added to EFE that his return is not due to the magistrate having summoned him, but rather to his desire to return as soon as possible, and they have pointed out that he still does not have any summons in court. The judge is investigating possibly irregular contracts from the last five years in the RFEF, coinciding with Rubiales’ time at the head of the entity.
