Luis Pareto, a former member of the Christian Democrats (DC), former deputy and mayor of the Metropolitan Region, died on Friday at the age of 93.

The information was confirmed by the DC bench, who expressed through his Twitter account: “Our condolences and affection for his family at this time, highlighting his valuable contribution to the country.”

Pareto was a deputy in five periods before the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship: 1957-1961, 1961-1965, 1965-1969 and from May 1973 until the coup on September 11 of that year.

After the return to democracy, the former parliamentarian was appointed mayor of the Metropolitan Region, a position he assumed from 1990 to 1994.

Later, between 1998 and 2002, he became a deputy once more and became president of the Lower House from 2001 to 2002.

The last position that the Christian Democracy activist assumed was to be a member of the Election Qualifying Tribunal since 2016, a position in which he remained until 2019, when he resigned.
