Eliminated from the Champions League and in a difficult position in the Premier League, still in the fight for the top-4, Liverpool is experiencing a season of great irregularities. Looking to the future, Virgil Van Dijk, Luis Díaz’s teammate, asks for signings.
“We have to sign new players if we want to be where we have been for the last five years. Obviously, some players leave. If we want to be at the highest level, we need quality signings”explained the Dutch central defender.
It should be remembered that Roberto Firmino, a figure of the Reds since the arrival of Klopp, has already announced that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season.
Luis Díaz returned to training and would be available for the next Premier League match.
Klopp disappointed by Liverpool elimination
Jurgen Klopp may well be sick of watching Real Madrid after Liverpool’s humble Champions League exit on Wednesday night.
Liverpool were comfortably dispatched 1-0 by Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2 aggregate.
The away side had their chances in Madrid, but Karim Benzema’s touch ended up being the only goal of the game, making Liverpool’s quest to finish in the top four all the more important.
Klopp was well aware of the strengths of the team he was up against in the round of 16, having been beaten by them in last year’s final. And his story and that of Liverpool with Madrid goes further.
Klopp took over as Liverpool manager in October 2015 and has now managed them in the Champions League for six seasons. He has won the competition once, in 2019, and has been eliminated five times.
A whopping four of those exits have now reached the hands of Real Madrid. They were beaten 1-0 in the final in Paris last year, lost 3-1 on aggregate in the 2020/21 quarter-final and beaten 3-1 in the 2018 final.
