Luigi, the perpetrator, receives 3 years in prison

The trial of Luigi C., a 62-year-old Framerican man, took place on Monday. He was on trial for murder. On September 12, 2016, the defendant shot Rachid Zatar, 38, on the terrace of Café l’Apéro in Quaregnon.

Very different versions

During the hearings last January, the versions of the two parties were very different. The defendant claims that it was the victim who was armed. Threatened, he would have seized the weapon, would have turned it over and a shot would have gone off during a stampede. The public prosecutor does not believe this version and evokes an execution.

This is why he requested a prison sentence of five years. This Monday, the fate of Luigi C. was therefore sealed. The sixth correctional chamber of the court of Hainaut, division of Mons, finally pronounced a prison sentence of three years for a murder with the mitigating circumstance that it had been provoked.

As a reminder, Rachid had taken steps on August 24, 2016 to obtain the defendant’s number. A few days later, he had threatened Luigi in another tavern, because he wanted him to pay for damage to his car. On September 9, 2016, three days before the murder, Rachid had threatened Luigi by telephone, the latter being watched by someone close to Rachid. The rest, we know it…

Already condemned

Luigi was already convicted of murder 40 years ago. He had received a sentence of forced labor at the assizes for a theft with aggravating circumstance of murder. He had also been convicted in Italy.

The court on Monday did not order the arrest requested by the prosecution.
