Lufthansa doubles flight frequency leaving Rio de Janeiro

Starting in the European summer season of 2024, Lufthansa will double the number of flights it operates from Galeão Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, from the current three weekly flights to six, offering a more robust network and allowing the operation of flights night flights between Rio de Janeiro and Frankfurt Airport, which takes on the role of destination on the route that used to be from the city of Munich.

During the 2024 European summer season, Lufthansa will operate an Airbus A340-300 on the route, upgrading to the Boeing 787-9 later in the summer months. Both aircraft types offer a world-renowned onboard experience with three classes of service: Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy.

Frankfurt Airport is Lufthansa’s main hub, with connections to more than 200 destinations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, as well as short flight options to the group’s destinations in Germany.

“The support of Galeão Airport has been an example in terms of partnership and shared values ​​since Lufthansa’s first flights to Brazil in 1956. The operation of the route to Frankfurt will further strengthen ties between the two entities,” noted Annette Taeuber, sales director in Brazil.

Known for being an economic powerhouse in South America, Brazil has long become one of the Lufthansa Group’s main intercontinental markets, especially due to the deep ties that Germany and the European Union have with Brazil.

The renewed Rio de Janeiro – Frankfurt route will complement Lufthansa’s daily operations between São Paulo and Frankfurt and Swiss International Air Lines’ (SWISS) daily service between São Paulo and Zurich.

The start of sales and of route tickets will take place from September 18th.
