The aircraft manufacturer is allowed to deliver Dreamliners once more following a long break. Not only Lufthansa is waiting. An overview of customers and open orders for Boeing 787.
It’s time. Boeing has from the American aviation authority FAA received the green light and is allowed to deliver Dreamliners once more. In October 2020, the manufacturer had to stop 787 deliveries for the first time due to production problems. In the spring of 2021, he resumed deliveries, but shortly therefollowing stopped them once more due to new difficulties.
Boeing has accumulated around 120 undelivered 787s over the period. They should now quickly leave the yard. American Airlines plans to take delivery of a Dreamliner as early as Wednesday (August 10), the airline announced. The aircraft will be registered N880BJ and will be American Airlines’ 47th Boeing 787.
Lufthansa and Etihad at the forefront
But from which customers does Boeing still have how many open Dreamliner orders? A look at the order book shows that at the end of June 2022 there were open orders for 476 of the long-haul aircraft – 39 Boeing 787-8, 316 Boeing 787-9 and 121 Boeing 787-10.
Customers include more than 30 airlines, including seven each expecting 20 or more Dreamliners purchased directly from Boeing: All Nippon Airways 20 (eight 787-9s and 12 787-10s), Korean Air 20 (ten 787-8s each and 787-10), Qatar Airways 23 (787-9), American Airlines 25 (787-9), Emirates 30 (787-9), Etihad Airways 32 (eleven 787-9 and 21 787-10) and Lufthansa 32 (787-9).
Leasing companies are also waiting for 787
However, these are only direct purchases. In addition, there can be additional planes via leasing or other financing models – with American Airlines there are regarding 18 more in addition to the 25 purchased. This is also reflected in the open orders.
The leasing companies Aercap are still waiting for 23 Dreamliners (21 787-9 and two 787-10), Air Lease Corporation for 23 (seven 787-9 and 17 787-10) and BOC Aviation for three (787-9). Another 21 of the jets (13 787-8 and eight 787-9) go to the account of the in-house Boeing Capital Corporation, which offers financing solutions.

There are also many 787 orders that will be treated discreetly for the time being. In the category of unnamed customers there are orders for 65 Dreamliners (seven 787-8, 40 787-9 and 18 787-10).
