Lucy, the daughter of Carlos Vives, opens her own path in music

When Lucy Vives entered the university to study Philosophy, she was clear regarding her future: to do a doctorate, be a teacher and have her own students.

At that time, music and art had been displaced from his priorities, “but when I graduated, music returned aggressively to remind me that my path was that, that that was my destiny.”

Living in college with a rock band, with which she shared performances and compositions, was that “anchor” that took her back to her essence.

As part of that reconnection process, Lucy presented her first single ashes, a love theme that, unlike most songs, sings regarding the relationship between two women. “I am very honest and loyal to my way of being, it is the legacy that I want to leave with my expression, although I know that sometimes it is very difficult to do something regardless of what others think,” Lucy said in a conversation with EL COLOMBIANO at talk regarding the risk of debuting as a singer with a topic that still causes controversy.

Rhythm

ashes was born from two songs, from ashes y Bailecitoto which the 26-year-old artist and her team underwent a “Frankeinstein-type” process to bring her first single to life.

Regarding the rhythm of the song, the singer points out that although there are many influences from the work of her father, Carlos Vives, “it is a very experimental fusion, with boleros, flamenco guitars and electronic pop, which makes it different. That is my stamp, it symbolizes my influences in music, which are very much from the Anglo culture”.

She admits that she is very eclectic, that her life is a “stew of rhythms”, because she listens to a lot of music, “I have a very broad knowledge of music and sounds of the world”.

Lucy says that she is a very anxious woman, something that became more evident with the whole process of ashes, and that tries to channel doing many things at the same time.

“I am not made of stone yet, although that is the goal, sometimes it makes me very strong to read the comments that people leave on social networks, but the positive opinions are what motivate me to continue”, he expresses when speaking of the reactions that generate their positions on politics, abortion and sexuality.

About the weight that her father’s name means in her career, she says that more than a shadow, it is an inspiration that motivates her to bet on music with respect, which for her is the great legacy that he has left in art.
