The historical Lucy Lopez, first Pan-American medalist from Chile, along with the legendary Nicolás Massú and Fernando González, Olympic gold medalists in Athens 2004they lit the cauldron in the National Stadiummarking the official start of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
The lighting of the torch thrilled the thousands of people in the National Stadium, from the moment the outstanding swimmer and multi-time champion appeared. Kristel Köbrich, who emerged from the Memorial of Missing Detainees.

Köbrich later handed the torch to another national sports legend.Ivan Zamorano, former captain of La Roja and bronze medalist at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, who also received the affection of the people.
The third torchbearer was Alfonso de Iruarrizaga, silver medalist at the 1988 Seoul Games; although the biggest ovation went to Nicolás Massú and Fernando Gonzálezthe heroes of Athens 2004.

Finally, Massú and González handed the flame to Lucy Lopez, 93 years old and winner of a silver medal for Chile, the first to do so, at the 1951 Pan American Games in Buenos Aires.
The former athlete, who is also a Santiago 2023 volunteer, was assisted by Massú and González to light the Pan-American flame that marks the official start of the sports competition in our country.
