In an interview on the show “Le Bilan” the MP for Matane-Matapédia, Pascal Bérubé, criticized Lucien Bouchard’s remarks regarding the Parti Québécois, believing that the latter went too far.

“I think he went beyond his duty of reserve (…) Without the Parti Québécois, he would never have become Premier of Quebec”, affirms the PQ MP.
For Mr. Bérubé, Lucien Bouchard lacked respect for his former political party and draws hasty conclusions.
“I think it’s a bad read,” he claims.
Pascal Bérubé also adds that François Legault would never have made himself known if it weren’t for the Parti Québécois.
“He was offered three ministries. He was treated very well in the Parti Québécois. He might have become the leader if he had wanted to,” says the MP for Matane-Matapédia.
Pascal Bérubé also believes that the Coalition avenir Québec is playing on several grounds at the moment.
“The CAQ sometimes acts like a company that would like to eliminate a competitor completely and have all of its market share. If we were no longer there, he might say: “finally, we can govern at leisure and we are no longer obliged to appear so intense in terms of nationalism”, supports the elected representative of the Parti Québécois.
He does not believe that the CAQ is the right vehicle to advance the nationalist cause.
“I know them a little, the people who form the CAQ. There is a good contingent of them who have their Canadian flag behind them in their constituency offices and in the National Assembly. And you know what? The Assembly does not provide them; you really have to want to bring one!” he says.
For Mr. Bérubé, François Legault’s party is first and foremost federalist.
“It may look like a blueberry: it’s blue on top, but it’s red inside,” illustrates the PQ MP.
