Back in August last year, the American company Lucid Motors formally introduced the Lucid Air Sapphire Edition electric sedan, which was supposed to accelerate to 100 km / h in less than 2 seconds and offer a power plant with more than 1200 hp. Showing a pre-production copy of such a sedan on the assembly line of its enterprise this week, Lucid promised to begin sales soon.

This closest competitor to the Tesla Model S Plaid not only outperforms Elon Musk’s in terms of power by regarding 20%, but will also be significantly more expensive. If the Tesla Model S Plaid in the US can now be ordered for $108,490 with a minimum expectation, then the Lucid Air Sapphire Edition will cost at least $249,000. Production of such electric vehicles in limited quantities at the Lucid plant in Arizona was originally planned to begin as early as last half of the year, but according to the tradition characteristic of the entire electric vehicle industry, the deadlines have shifted slightly.
However, demonstrating this week photo the fastest mass-produced electric sedan on the market, Lucid Motors made a corresponding annotation, which stated that a pre-production copy was captured on the assembly line of the company’s American enterprise, and it will soon go on sale. Among other technical characteristics of the car, which were originally announced, it is worth mentioning the ability to reach a speed of 160 km / h in 3.87 seconds and a top speed of 330 km / h. A car must cover a distance of a quarter mile in less than nine seconds.
Like the Tesla Model S Plaid, this sports car received three electric motors – two on the rear axle and one on the front, their total output reaches 1200 hp. The presence of two independent electric motors on the rear axle, combined with planetary gears, means that the sedan can independently manage torque to each of the rear wheels, and this opens up a wide range of possibilities in terms of handling. The power reserve has not yet been specified, but on an enlarged basis it was declared at a level of over 640 km.
